Captain Tom McKeown served 30 years in the U.S. Navy. He was Commanding Officer of two warships and four Naval Bases. His novels engage his readers with many intriguing challenges as well as much humor.
Thank you for visiting my blog. While serving my country for thirty years in the navy, every day was a new adventure for me whether at sea as a shipmate or as the captain, commanding naval bases, or participating in leadership roles within major corporations, there are so many stories to share. Being quasi retired now, I have more free time available to follow my writing passion, interrupted only by short stints of consulting for navy or other Federal government entities. I was often away at sea for weeks and months at a time. The extraordinary sacrifices and burdens endured by my spouse and all the spouses of our military men and women deserve special thanks from our nation.
With many changes in duty stations, my family packed up our station wagon with kids and dog and travelled across country seven times. We became experts in packing and unpacking. We saw beautiful monuments, fields and mountains. Many times my kids would hear me say, “Don’t make me stop the car, or else!!” My wife and I bought and sold six homes. Our five children were never shy to make friends and this ability for easy comradeship served them well over their years.
The novel about Londonderry Northern Ireland is an untold story of brave navy families coping with danger and stress. “Turn the Ship’ is a short novel replete with challenges at sea. There are more novels to come.
